🍵 🕊️

裏千家前御家元・千玄室大宗匠のご逝去を悼み、
心より哀悼の意を表します。

学徒出陣にて特攻隊での従軍を経験され、
戦後はハワイ大学へのご留学、
そして「一盌からピースフルネスを」の哲学をもとに
世界各地に海外拠点を持たれるとともに、戦乱の続く地にてお献茶の会を催されるなど、
茶道の精神によって平和の尊さを伝え続けられたこと、
尊敬の念に絶えません。

当館創業者・北野次登は「同期の桜」として、共に特攻隊としての任務を務めたご縁でした。

戦後もお忙しい傍らふたりの親交は続き、
次登が世界と日本の架け橋となるべく尽力した志に、深く共鳴してくださったものと存じます。

ザ・キタノホテル東京の開館時にはご祝辞を賜り、当代社長に対しても折に触れ温かい励ましと、多々ご協力を賜りましたことにも、心より感謝を申し上げます。

お盆、そして終戦記念日を迎えるこの夏の時期、日本人は皆平和の意味を振り返ります。

大宗匠のご生涯を通して行われた御活動の意味を今一度心に留め、
謹んでご冥福をお祈り申し上げます。

In Honor of Dr. Genshitsu Sen, Former Grand Master of Urasenke:

We extend our heartfelt condolences on the passing of Dr. Genshitsu Sen.

A former member of the wartime student mobilization and later a global peace advocate, he devoted his life to sharing the spirit of tea across borders under the philosophy:
“Peacefulness through a bowl of tea.”

He and our founder, Tsuguto Kitano, were bonded as comrades-in-arms during the war. Their deep friendship continued after the war, united by a shared vision of building bridges between Japan and the world.

We are especially grateful for Dr. Sen’s gracious presence at the opening of The Kitano Hotel Tokyo, as well as for the warm encouragement he extended to us across generations.

As we approach the Obon season and the anniversary of the end of the war,

we take a moment to reflect on the meaning of peace, and on the legacy of a man who dedicated his life to it.

May his soul rest in peace.
